Cafe Salsa
Cafe Salsa is one of my go to places for outdoor summer eating. Open for all day eating, the menu is mainly Mexican with some burgers, sandwiches and American breakfast items. They serve breakfast till 3pm which, to me, is an indicator of a place that understands that breakfast doesn’t have to be eaten before noon.
Cafe Salsa is my choice of local places to go for a late afternoon beer in summer and for a meal anytime. The food is good and sound if somewhat unimaginative and the servings are generous. As soon as you sit down, fresh chips and salsa will arrive with the server and your menus – they make the chips onsite so sometimes they will be still hot from the frier – yum!
My faves are their soft tacos – grilled fish, shrimp, and salmon are great and there are the usual Mexican meat options including carne asada, carnitas, al pastor (pork), and grilled chicken. Vegetarians will find plenty to choose from – I love their grilled vegetable tacos too. They have awesome (regular size) burritos all the way up to their 4 pound Cafe Salsa Especial burrito which will feed you for a week!
I only ever eat out of doors here and I find the inside unappealing but your mileage may vary. Outside the eating area is big and it’s sort of fenced off so you don’t feel like you are eating right on the sidewalk. There are heaps of red umbrellas to keep off the sun and it’s just the nicest place to sit on a hot afternoon with an icy coke, or a beer and watch the world go by.
If you have family coming in from out of town, take them to Cafe Salsa – sit outside and invite them to enjoy the quintessential Cotati experience.
