China Chef
I am not the world’s biggest fan of Chinese food but then China Chef isn’t your typical Chinese restaurant. Which is probably why I think it is awesome and why I eat there (or get takeout) nearly every week. China Chef focuses on healthy Chinese food so you won’t be buried up to your eyeballs in MSG, you won’t turn red from an overload of food dye or need to drink a bucket of water to offset all the salt. No way! China Chef food is MSG and food coloring free, it isn’t overloaded with salt and they actually source a lot of organic ingredients and use free range chickens.
Add to this that they have a great vegetarian menu with tastes which you won’t find everywhere and it all adds up to Chinese food you will love. I don’t eat meat but I do eat fish so I always get their crispy calamari and sometimes their cashew prawn, but it is their purely vegetarian options which really capture my taste buds. Try their Kale and Shitake Mushroom (when in season), Eggplant with Fresh Basil Leaves in Coconut Curry Sauce, and Tofu Sauteed with Shitake Mushroom in Ginger Sauce. But basically anything you try will be good, it’s just hard to decide because there are so many options. The owner works there during the week and she is really nice and helpful and her weekend staff are awesome too.
If you like almond cookies then look for them in the cabinet opposite the main desk before you leave and if you can’t be bothered getting dressed and driving there – they deliver!
